Henry, patient & volunteer, Toronto ON
I hate VHL. Since 1985 (age 15), I've had 5 brain surgeries and 4 kidney cancer surgeries. But the disease gives me strength and purpose. (For the moment I haven't had any ops or complications and I haven't been working - so I have "time" etc)
I’m a patient, professional, and volunteer. I was a Clinical Registered Social Worker for 12 years. Unfortunately, my career was significantly disrupted by many brain tumour and kidney cancer surgeries. Now, I’m a confident and passionate volunteer who has devoted over 2000 hours since 2013, mostly from a home office.
September 2015: I start a new national charity for the Canadian VHL community, called VHL Canada.
2013-15: Previously, I was elected by the board of directors as Chair/Chief Executive of Canadian VHL Alliance. Recruited and appointed as volunteer of national intake and outreach efforts.
